In March 1945, USS The Sullivans participated in the Battle of Okinawa, not only repelling countless attacks from Kamikaze special attack aircraft, but also assisting in rescuing crew members from damaged friendly ships. During World War II, USS The Sullivans acquired nine Battle Stars. After the end of World War II, USS The Sullivans returned to the United States in July 1945 and was incorporated into the reserve fleet in 1946 after major repairs.
